AUSTIN — John Steven Rowe, also known as “Stevie Ray,” left us peacefully on the morning of October 2, 2024, in Austin, Texas. Steve was born on January 9, 1956, in Tyler Texas to Billy Joe Rowe and Shirley Watson Rowe. Steve grew up in Tyler, was a 1974 graduate of Bishop T.K. Gorman High School and attended Tyler Junior College. Steve was all things Texas and an ardent follower of his beloved Texas Longhorns, Dallas Cowboys, and Texas Rangers. He collected sports memorabilia and loved all forms of music. Steve ran the Brookshires milk plant for a time, later relocating to Austin where he worked in plant production and retail management before retiring.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his family, including his incredibly special Aunt, Reba Byrd of Austin, who was his constant source of wisdom and affection, sisters Cathy Myers of Bullard and Julie Parker of Tyler, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Services are to be held on Thursday, October 10 at 2:00pm under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to the service with burial at 3:00pm at Roselawn Cemetery in Tyler.
Pallbearers will be J.T. Brown, Terry Brown, Kelly Hines, Steve Hudnall, Gary Stevens, Michael Ware, and Joe Weaver. Honorary pallbearers will be Frazier Carter and Tim McGuire.
