Gary was born in Corsicana, Texas, to Jesse Ray Priest and Nell Peacock, on December 30th, 1958. He married his soulmate, Sherri Elizabeth Duke on August 16, 1980, happily married for 43 years. Proud father of two sons and beloved G-Pa to three precious grandkids. He worked for over 30 years with Murphy’s Furniture Gallery and subsequently with La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries, making many friends and colleagues. He loved to travel with his wife and dogs on many adventures including kayaking, hiking and RV camping. He served God diligently by doing mission with Volunteer Christian Builders as they “travelled with a purpose”. He also served many years as a Scoutmaster and a leader in the boy’s scout troops. He served God steadfastly and with incredible compassion. He loved to cheer for the Rangers with his family and was very happy with the outcome of this year’s world series. He loved nature and daily took walks in his woods with the dogs. His favorite stress relief was driving his tractor or tinkering on stuff in his shop. He loved his family and was loved greatly.
Gary is preceded in death by his mother Nell Peacock Keel and stepfather Sam Keel. Gary is survived by his wife Sherri Priest, his son Jeremy Priest and wife Ashley, his son Timothy Priest and wife Stephanie, his grandchildren Gracie Priest, Zachary Priest and Henry Priest, and two wonderful dogs, Max and Bandit. Also survived by his father Jessie Ray Priest, his brother Mike Priest, his sister Tandy Priest Hite, his half-brother Eddie Priest, his stepsister Melissa Baker, his sister-in-law Terri Jacque and husband Gary, his nephew Christopher Jacque, his nephew Johnathan Killpatrick, his God-Daughter Mandy Miller Sandvig and many cousins, along with dozens of other loving family members and scores of friends.
Gary served God by doing small things with great love. 1 Peter 4:10-11 says “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful steward of God’s grace in its various forms.” Even after death, Gary continues to give by donating his body to science. Our family is proud to know that Gary lived out that verse always.
The family request that donations be made to Volunteer Christian Builders in lieu of flowers and also asks that you share your favorite memory of Gary with the family at Legacy.com.
