6 TJC soccer players earn All-America honors

Six Tyler Junior College soccer players — four Apache Ladies and two Apaches— have earned All-America honors, the NJCAA announced from its headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina. 

Apache Ladies on the first-team were Lunana Munoz, a 5-6 sophomore defender from Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Hitomi Kono, a 5-3 sophomore midfielder from Kanagawa, Japan.

Second-team honors went to goalkeeper Andrea Neves, a 5-11 sophomore from Hamburg, Germany, and forward Patricia Estupinan, a 5-5 freshman from Canarias, Spain.

The Apache Ladies finished national runners-up with a 23-2-1 record. They were national champions in 2017.

The selections were by the NJCAA Division I women’s soccer committee.



The Apaches, who were seeking their third straight national championship, placed defender Musa Qongo, a 5-7 sophomore from Johannesburg, South Africa, on the first team.

Midfielder Leon Karman, a 5-11 sophomore from Emmendingen, Germany, earned second-team honors.

The Apaches were appearing in their 10th straight national tournament.

The selections were by the NJCAA Division I men’s soccer committee.
