Florida Mae McMillian

Funeral services for Florida Mae McMillan of Tyler are scheduled for Monday, November 19, 2018 10:00 AM at Greater St. Mary Baptist Church with Rev. Ralph Caraway, Sr. eulogist and Rev. Ralph Caraway, Jr. officiating. Interment will be held in Evergreen Memorial Park under the direction of Brooks Sterling & Garrett Funeral Directors.

Florida Mae Black was born March 20, 1924 in Carthage, Texas to Lois Chadwick Porter Jackson and Getis Black.

She graduated Emmett J. Scott High School and furthered her education at Texas College. She earned a Masters Degree in Education.

Florida married Harry McMillian in 1945 and remained a loving wife until his death in 1986.

She began her professional career in Sulphur Springs, Texas and later joined the Tyler Independent School District.



She was an active member of Greater St. Mary Baptist Church having served over 86 years.

Florida was a member of the Texas State Teachers Association and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and daughter Judy Gayle Holman.

She is survived by a daughter Harrilyn K. McMillan and son Tony McMillan. Dedicated son in law Joe Holman.

Six grandchildren and a host of extended family members and lifelong friends.
