Services for Billy Ray Garner, 81, of Tyler, will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Stewart Family Funeral Home Chapel with Jeff Gage officiating. A private burial will be held under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Mr. Garner passed away Monday, November 12, 2018 in Tyler. He was born April 25, 1937 in Jacksonville to Odis Ray Garner and Hazel Bounds Garner. Bill was a longtime member of Whitehouse United Methodist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher and finance chairman. For the last seventeen years, he served as an usher at Lanes Chapel United Methodist Church. He graduated from Lon Morris College and Stephen F. Austin University, with a BBA in accounting. He started his career at United Gas and later worked at Delta Drilling, Tyler Pipe, GE and retired from Brookshire Grocery Co. Bill was an avid tennis player, bass fisherman and WWII gun collector. He also enjoyed playing golf. In 1956, Bill met the love of his life, Betty French, whom he married in 1960. They spent 58 wonderful years together. Bill was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving family including his wife, Betty Garner; sons, Scott Garner and wife Julie and Blake Garner and wife Amy; grandchildren, Timber Garner, Brooks Garner, Andrew Garner, and Sydney Garner and sister, Sonja Dover and husband Gary. Visitation is scheduled from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler.
