The more that things change…

NELSON CLYDEIs It Just Me?

One of these days I’m gonna keep some better records about all the changes that are not really changes. At the end of the day, it seems the more things change, the more they really stay the same. In all honesty, the change in me seems to be greater than the change around me.

I look forward every year to the perfect weather we are enjoying, the time change and so many other things.

The problem is, I always forget the price we pay for these things. My allergies start acting up as soon as the sun is shining and the high temperature is 72. It’s a pretty small price to pay. The biggest price we pay is enduring months of searing summer days to get to these perfect days we have enjoyed lately.

The time change used to get me really worked up. That was back in my youth when I could actually sleep enough for it to make a difference. Nowadays sleeping late means 7 a.m. on the long end.

I’m usually up so early I’ve got time to have my coffee, do some cooking and cleaning and probably make a trip to the countryside to find a rooster to tell him to start crowing so everyone else can wake up and join me.

Speaking of crowing, after Tuesday we will get some much-needed relief from enduring the oppressive political signs and the even more oppressive hysteria over who gets elected. In Texas,

most elections are over after the spring primaries. That was probably true this year as well.

All any of us can do is let our vote be counted and wait to see the consequences. My level of energy about the outcomes is about equal to whether the Cowboys win these days.

The number of perfect days are diminishing quickly and daylight is, too. The next time you see a little of both, you better get outside and soak them in while you still have a chance.
