Tyler Junior College's Deandre Heckard (2) defends Southwestern Christian's Ro'yel Everson (12) Saturday at Wagstaff Gymnasium.

If Friday and Saturday are any indication, the Tyler Junior College Apaches are going to be able to put some points on the board in the 2018-19 season.

After defeating Brookhaven 100-78 on Friday, the Apaches closed the TJC Classic with a 103-62 rout of Southwestern Christian on Saturday at Wagstaff Gymnasium.

All 11 Apaches landed in the scoring column, including five in double figures.

And they’re pretty good on the defensive end, also. The Apaches limited the Rams to 27.5 percent shooting from the field, recorded nine steals and blocked six shots.

TJC got out to a quick 8-0 lead. A 14-4 run later in the first half put the Apaches ahead 46-20.

A bucket by Jonathan Bryant in the final seconds of the first half sent the Apaches into the locker room with a 53-29 advantage.

The Rams came out firing in the second half with back-to-back triples by Da’Lante Brooks, who finished with 17 points.

With the score at 59-39, TJC went on a 19-2 run to stretch the lead to 37 points.

Longview freshman Jason Bush scored inside on an assist by Shahada Wells to put the Apaches over the 100-point mark with 1:11 to play.

Bush and sophomore Cameron Johnson led the Apaches with 15 points each. Bush also had seven rebounds.

Reyhan Cobb had 14 points and 11 rebounds. Wells, who scored a team-high 29 points on Friday, scored 13 points, and Kieffer Punter had 12 points and eight assists.

Rory Pantophlet had 10 rebounds for TJC (2-0), and Chandler Oriakhi blocked four shots.

TJC will host Lone Star College-Cy Fair at 6 p.m. Monday.

In the first game on Saturday, Kilgore defeated Brookhaven, 78-64.
