Smith County officials will discuss a legal case involving the former national mortgage lender Fannie Mae.

The Smith County Commissioners Court will discuss the issue in executive session at its regular meeting at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Smith County Courthouse Annex Building.

The county is suing the Federal National Mortgage Association, also known as Fannie Mae, in the Smith County Court at Law. The county filed suit in May.

Fannie Mae is a public company that buys home mortgages as investments, packages the mortgages and then sells them to investors.

Casey Murphy, the spokeswoman for the Smith County Commissioners Court, said the county’s legal team does not comment on pending litigation.

At the meeting, the court also will approve an emergency plan and a plan to solicit bids for improving roads.
