MESQUITE — John Tyler placed second behind Longview in the boys division at the District 11-6A Track and Field Meet on Thursday night at Hanby Stadium.

JT’s Ke’Tavion Humber and Tyler Lee’s Haftu Knight won two events to top the Rose City individuals. JT also won both the 4×100 and 4x-200 relays.

John Tyler held a 110-100 lead over Longview late, but Longview won the 4×400-meter relay to rally for the title with 120 points.

John Tyler finished with 118 points. Tyler Lee placed sixth with 69 points.

Rockwall won the girls title with 204 points. Tyler Lee (49 points) and John Tyler (22 points) were sixth and seventh, respectively.

Lee’s Branson Ellis (pole vault) and Knight (1600-meters, 3200-meters), and John Tyler’s Caleb McMiller (100-meter dash) and Humber (110-meter hurdles, 300-meter hurdles) all won gold. The John Tyler boys also won the 4×100-meter and 4×200-meter relays.

In the field events, Ellis won the pole vault, leaping 15 feet, 2 inches with JT’s Kitan Crawford taking silver in the long jump (22-4).

Humber had double gold by capturing the hurdle events. Humber won the 110s with a time of 14.42. In the 300s, he clocked in at 38.86.

McMiller won the 100-meter dash in 10.41 seconds. Caleb Borger of Mesquite was second at 10.48. Crawford took the bronze in the 200-meters at 22.16.

In the 800-meter run, JT’s Stephen Brown was second with a clocking of 1 minute and 59.89 seconds.

The Lions won the 400-meter relay in a time of 41.30, just ahead of Longview (42.03). Crawford, Humber, Michael Givens-Washington and McMiller were members of the relay.

In the 800-meter relay, JT had a time of 1:27.43. Longview was second at 1:28.00. JT’s relay members are Crawford, Keandre Ray, Givens-Washington and Dyvione Patterson.

Lee’s Knight was king of the distance by claiming the 1,600 (4:23.82) and 3,200 (9:26.45).

The Red Raiders won silver in the 1600-meter relay in a time of 3:20.97. Relay members are Daylon Harris, Zaylon Walker, Matt Taylor and Garrett Gowin. Longview won the event with a clocking of 3:20.76.

In the girls’ field events, JT’s Kassidy McKenzie won bronze in the shot put (33 feet, 7 inches). 

REL’s Kaila Hall was third in the 100-meters at 12.56, while Sarah Hamlin was second in both the 1600 (5:33.71) and 3200 (11:56.32). 

Taking third in the 300-meter hurdles for Lee was Genisis Emanuel (45.41).

The top four finishers in each event qualify for the area meet in The Woodlands.
