Robert E. Lee baseball suffered its first district setback in two weeks on Tuesday, dropping a 5-2 game at Mesquite.

The teams meet again on Friday with the Red Raiders looking to return to winning ways. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Mike Carter Field.

Lee (7-13, 4-3 in District 11-6A) currently sits in a three-way tie for third place with Mesquite and North Mesquite. A win is needed not only to try and break that tie, but also take away a sweep for the Skeeters, which could be important in any tiebreaker situations.

Red Raiders’ Bradley Rippy hadn’t allowed a run in consecutive road starts, but gave up five in 1 1/3 innings. Only one of the runs was earned as REL finished the game with four errors.

REL tried to rally back, but was limited to single runs in the fifth and seventh innings on six hits. The Red Raiders loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh, but managed one run as REL stranded 11 runners overall in the contest.

Rippy is available for Friday, with Matthew Hittle set to go as well after he delivered a complete-game win last week in a win over Mesquite Horn.

The Skeeters have now won three in a row after taking two last week from John Tyler.

The Lions will look to bounce back from Tuesday’s 15-1 loss to co-district leader Rockwall-Heath when the two teams battle again on Friday.
