It's a bit Elitist to lock yourself away in a gated community if you ask me.
Enjoy your sheltered existence.

I never dreamed that wanting to provide a quite, tranquil and safe place for my wife and kids to live would make me an elitist. Now I find out that I am one because the community I live in is gated.

I suppose I will just take comfort in the fact that I am willing to use my real name in this forum. Perhaps that will make me more of an average Joe.

Rick:

What is wrong with having money? Enough money to live where you want and how you want. I am all for gated communities - I wish I could live in one.

I don't know whats 'average joe' about living on a golf course behind walls.

So which is it you object to, the gate or the golf course or the combination of the two? If just the gate makes one an elitist then there are an awful lot of elitist living in the area in numerous gated neighborhoods and even more in gated apartment complexes.

There are plenty of homes in Hideaway that are far from extravagant and the occupants do not play golf. They live here for many reasons. They like the neighborhood, they can afford the house, they like the school district, they like being outside of the city. I don't know anyone that moved here thinking they wanted to be an elitist.

Regardless, this is American and for now it is still a free country and people are able to choose where they want to live and how they want to live.
