The building of the medians resulted in wasted gas, prevented some customers from shopping at stores that are difficult to reach, and are an ineffective use of our tax dollars. More importantly, however, is that money is spent on creating attractive medians rather than building shoulders to the many county roads with dangerous drop-offs which too often cause deaths. This occurred recently in East Texas when an adult and a child were killed because of the lack of a sloping shoulder on the edge of the road. As a result of these deaths, a warning was issued about over-correcting when one's car goes off the edge of the road. When there is a high drop-off and one is traveling at 60 mph, it is very difficult to safely maneuver back onto the road. Building sloping shoulders to roads should be a higher priority than building attractive medians. I have often wondered if there is a website or petition I could sign to protest the building of the medians in Tyler.

Lori:

One of the reasons the medians were built is because Tyler drivers are lousy drivers and hundreds of accidents were happening in the turn lanes on Broadway and the Loop. It was incredibly dangerous to turn across the Loop or Broadway. The medians have done their job in eliminating those types of accidents from occurring. I believe they are worth the money in lives they have saved.

Wasted gas? I don’t believe that one bit. I just plan my trip better. I will get to a store no matter where they are located -

I do agree with you that our county roads are in need of major over hauls. They are dangerous to say the least. We have a large population that live off of county roads and they deserve better attention.
