It seems like most folks have a short memories. Does anyone really miss the pre-median days when some careless drivers on Loop 323 would drive a half mile or more in the "turning lane" before actually making a turn? I do not miss theses days with the collisions and many near misses. As far as looks are concerned, that is a matter of opinion. I like the red bricks, plants and flowers. Thanks TXDOT.

Some folks have shorter memories than others. Does anyone remember when they took the grass and concrete medians out of the SW Loop because they were too dangerous and caused too many wrecks? They put in the center turn lanes when they took them out. Now you have poorly designed concrete medians with not enough or not long enough left turns, left turns and u-turns only at intersections, and more vehicles in residential neighborhoods than the streets were designed for. I'm a firm believer in the person who designed the medians should have to drive in Tyler for a few weeks to see how bad they messed up the design and planning. And I laugh when I think about the TXDOT media guy saying you wouldn't have to worry about the vehicle in front of you stopping in the traffic lane anymore.

The building of the medians resulted in wasted gas, prevented some customers from shopping at stores that are difficult to reach, and are an ineffective use of our tax dollars. More importantly, however, is that money is spent on creating attractive medians rather than building shoulders to the many county roads with dangerous drop-offs which too often cause deaths. This occurred recently in East Texas when an adult and a child were killed because of the lack of a sloping shoulder on the edge of the road. As a result of these deaths, a warning was issued about over-correcting when one's car goes off the edge of the road. When there is a high drop-off and one is traveling at 60 mph, it is very difficult to safely maneuver back onto the road. Building sloping shoulders to roads should be a higher priority than building attractive medians. I have often wondered if there is a website or petition I could sign to protest the building of the medians in Tyler.
