Tyler man gets life on sexual assault of a child charges
A Tyler man who pleaded guilty in February to charges of sexual assault of a child received a life in prison and no possibility of parole from Judge Jack Skeen Jr. in the Smith County 241st District Court this morning.

Thomas Harold George Brookbank, 22, had been accused of sexually assaulting young children at a trailer park last summer.

He has been in the Smith County Jail since July 13 on bonds totaling more than $5 million.

The case began in July when Brookbank was charged with sexually assaulting young children while in a clubhouse in a wooded area on the property off Shiloh Road.

Tyler police spokesman Don Martin said a 9-year-old girl reported that she and several of her friends of the same age were sexually assaulted several times during a month.

Police had identified as many as five victims.
