Man, 37, gets life sentence for October bank robbery
A 37-year-old Tyler man entered an open plea Thursday on an October bank robbery charge in the Smith County 241st District Court.
Kevin Don Sinquefield, who entered the plea before Judge Jack Skeen Jr., did not have a special arrangement with prosecutors prior to the plea and received a life sentence for the second-degree felony, prosecutor Jason Parrish said. That life sentence was the highest Sinquefield could have received, Parrish said.

Because Sinquefield was on parole for a 1998 robbery offense when he committed the October robbery, he will have to finish serving the remainder of his 1998 sentence before he can begin serving his life sentence for the October robbery, Parrish said.
“He won’t begin serving his life sentence until 2018,” Parrish said. Sinquefield may be eligible for parole in 20 years, he said, because the robbery charge did not involve a weapon.
On Oct. 19, Sinquefield robbed the Austin Bank at 5515 Old Bullard Road of $3,000 by passing a note to the teller, Parrish said. Department of Public Safety Officers pursued and caught Sinquefield on Interstate 20.
