Arrest made in connection with Arp shooting incident
Staff Reports

An Arp man was arrested Wednesday morning after allegedly shooting another man and himself Tuesday evening.

The incident occurred at 6:30 p.m. in the 15000 block of Texas State 135, near Arp, John Moore, public relations officer with the Smith County Sheriff’s Office, said
Richard Lee Hunt, 51, allegedly shot another man multiple times in the neck and chest, and then accidently shot himself in the leg at a home, Moore said.

Moore said officers originally thought the victim’s wounds were in the neck area, but emergency room personnel found multiple wounds on the man at the hospital.

As of Wednesday afternoon he was in the ICU and listed in critical condition. Hunt was treated and released Tuesday evening.

Officers believe both men lived in the neighborhood, but their relationship was unclear as of Wednesday afternoon, Moore said.

Hunt was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony. His bond was set at $50,000.

Officials said the investigation still is ongoing.
