‘Great Getaway’ back at Lake Palestine
Staff Reports

East Texas cancer survivors may participate in this year’s Great Getaway, an annual retreat hosted by East Texas Medical Center Cancer Institute. It will be held April 23 to 25 at Pine Cove on Lake Palestine.

The retreat gives cancer survivors a chance to relax and refocus. It also provides opportunities to meet other cancer survivors who share the same concerns. Any adult who has been diagnosed with cancer is invited to attend.

“This is a chance to get away from the stress of day-to-day life and enjoy the company of others who have been through similar experiences,” said Sandy Campbell, camp coordinator for the ETMC Cancer Institute.

“Health care professionals, as well as cancer survivors, will be in attendance to assist with retreat activities.”

Pine Cove offers comfortable, motel-style rooms with private baths. All lodging, meals and snacks are included in a $50 registration fee. Arrival time begins at 1 p.m. April 23, and the retreat will conclude at 1:30 p.m. April 25.

Registration forms and fees must be received by April 10. Space is limited and priority will be given to first-time attendees. A limited number of scholarships are available if you need financial assistance. For more information please call the ETMC Cancer Institute at 903-595-5550 or 1-800- 541-0592.

ETMC offering free seminar on dementia

A light lunch will be served. Free parking is available next to the Pavilion, at 801 Clinic Drive. Gate opens at 11:30 a.m. Preregister by calling 800-648-8141 and press 2.
