Meetings set to seek public input
Staff Reports

Smith County is seeking public input and priorities from residents on all county-related services from roads to public safety.

Short, anonymous questionnaires will be available online today. Commissioners will hold a series of community meetings to encourage public input, information and ideas concerning county services.

County Judge Joel Baker said the court plans to use the input to prioritize projects and create specific long-term goals and measure- ments for county services.

“We want to create an open platform for the citizens of Smith County to make their priorities known,” Baker said in a release.

Smith County residents can fill out a short Community Input Form online at www.smith-county.com.

Residents can also call their precinct commissioner directly at 903-590-4605.

Precinct 4 Commissioner JoAnn Hampton said the input forms and meetings will help residents with busy schedules make their priorities and needs known.

“We want to hear from everyone who has information or ideas and use that information to guide our decisions as we plan for the future of Smith County,” she said in the release.

Hard copies of the survey will be available at six community input meetings beginning March 12. Residents also can pick up Community Input Forms at the Smith County Courthouse Annex or contact their county commissioner.

Residents are invited to meet their commissioner to give input at community meetings, including 6 p.m., March 12 for a Precinct 4 Community Input Meeting – 6 p.m. at 304 E. Ferguson St. in Tyler; 6:30 p.m., March 12 for a Precinct 2 Community Input Meeting (in conjunction with Troup City Council Meeting) at Troup ISD Administration Building; 6:30 p.m., March 18 for a Precinct 1 Community Input Meeting (in conjunction with Bullard City Council Meeting) at Bullard City Hall; 6 p.m., March 26 for a Precinct 2 Community Input Meeting (in conjunction with Whitehouse City Council Meeting) at Whitehouse City Hall and at 7 p.m., March 28 for a Precinct 1 Community Input Meeting (in conjunction with Noonday City Council Meeting) at Noonday City Hall or at a special communitywide meeting to be held at 6 p.m., April 9.
