Hundreds of students to attend problem-solving competition at All-Saints
Staff Reports

More than 350 students from North and East Texas will participate in a creative, problem-solving competition today at All Saints Episcopal School in Tyler.

The Odyssey of the Mind North Texas Regional Tournament will start at 11 a.m. and is expected to last until at least 5 p.m., according to information provided by All Saints.

The public is invited to watch the competition. Signs on campus will direct people to the different buildings where students will solve problems.

Students from as many as 20 public, private and home schools are expected to participate.

All Saints will have six teams competing with students from first to sixth grades involved. Teachers and parents volunteer to serve as the coaches.

Odyssey of the Mind is an international education program in which team members use creativity to solve a variety of problems, according to a website about it.

These problems can include building mechanical devices and presenting original performances that meet certain criteria.

The process rewards outside-the-box thinking, according to the Odyssey of the Mind website.
