Call for registration and judges for the Rose City Chili Cook-off
Rose City Chili Pod in partnership with the Rotary Club of Tyler is hosting their 32nd CASI sanctioned Chili Cook-off on March 2 at Gander Mountain in Tyler to benefit local Rotary projects and The East Texas SPCA.
Registration will open at 8:45 a.m. and is followed by a cook’s meeting at 10 a.m.
Pre-registration may be mailed to Rose City Chili Pod, 10358 County Road 3101, Winona, Texas 75792. Must be postmarked no later than Feb. 25.
Judges also are being recruited for the event and the CASI only competition the next day.
The CASI chili competition will be judged on aroma, red color, consistency, taste and aftertaste in compliance with CASI rules.
The junior’s chili, for participants that are ages seven to 17, must follow CASI rules and trophies will be given to the top three.
There also will be a 50/30/20 bean competition. Additional awards will be given for CASI Showmanship and People’s Choice. The public must purchase a tasting cup to participate in the voting. Participants are encouraged to make extra chili for the public to taste. Public tasting starts at 11 a.m.
Overnight parking for camping and recreational vehicles without hook-ups will be available Friday and Saturday.
March 3 there will be a second chance for CASI points with no public participation. Judges also are needed. Events include CASI Chili for CASI points only and showmanship for CASI cooks for CASI points only.
