Two girls injured in ATV accident near Chapel Hill
An ATV accident has left two girls injured when the ATV they were on at a birthday party flipped.

Smith County Sheriff Larry Smith said his office was dispatched to East Texas Medical Center Emergency Room shortly before 5 p.m. Sunday regarding an ATV accident which occurred earlier on private property at 11749 Highway 64 East near Chapel Hill.

Smith said the accident involved two juvenile females, one of which sustained severe head trauma and is in critical condition. That individual underwent surgery Sunday.

“The two girls were attending a birthday party and were riding an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV). Witnesses stated they were traveling at an unsafe speed when they lost control of the ATV, ejecting both individuals,” he said.

Smith said the girl with the more severe injuries was pinned underneath the ATV. The second occupant sustained moderate scrapes and bruises.
