Smith County Democratics planning call set Tuesday
The Smith County Democratic Party will make plans for 2013 via conference call at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Party members will discuss the various opportunities and make plans. For more information, call 903-253-7640.


CHEROKEE COUNTY GOP
The Cherokee County Republican Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hong Kong Super Buffet Restaurant, 1644 S. Jackson St. in Jacksonville.

The Republican Party Chairman Steve Munisteri is scheduled to speak.

The club also announced applications for 2013 Memorial Scholarships are available. The deadline for submission and the required essay is 6 p.m. Monday, April 22.

At least one $500 scholarship will be awarded by the club.


WOMEN VOTERS
The Tyler/Smith County League of Women Voters will continue its Great Decision discussions, an annual event held each Wednesday at noon at the Tyler Public Library, through March 6. The event is co-sponsored by the Tyler Public Library and the American Association of University Women.

On Wednesday, The University of Texas at Tyler professor Robert Sterken will discuss democratic reforms made by Myanmar’s government, the challenges the nation faces and its role in southeast Asia.

On Feb. 27, UT Tyler professor Marcus Stadelmann will discuss how the global recession contributed to the development of the euro crisis, the health of the common currency and how European Union leaders can prevent its collapse.

GOP WOMEN
The Smith County Republican Women will meet at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Traditions Restaurant, 6205 S. Broadway Ave. in Tyler.

Smith County Sheriff Larry Smith will discuss department changes and Second Amendment rights.

The public is invited.


WE THE PEOPLE
Grassroots America — We the People announced two events featuring Texas Border Volunteers and ranchers from along the Rio Grande.

The group will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday and 11:30 a.m. Friday at Lakeview Church of the Nazarene, 10818 University Blvd. in Tyler.

Mike Vickers, of Texas Border Volunteers and ranchers from Falfurrias will make a presentation about illegal border crossings entitled “Is the Border Secure and Who’s Coming In?”
Lunches will be available for purchase or attendees may bring one. The public is invited.
