Tyler ISD bus involved in minor accident; no injuries
A Tyler ISD school bus was involved in a minor traffic accident this afternoon.
The accident occurred about 4 p.m. on Old Jacksonville Highway near Rice Road, Dawn Parnell, spokeswoman for the district, said.
Ms. Parnell said another car drifted into the lane of the bus and sideswiped it. After investigating the accident, police determined that the bus was traveling north on Old Jacksonville Highway in the outside lane while a white Ford Mustang was north in the inside lane beside the bus, according to a news release. The news release states that the car had a mechanical problem, which caused it to swerve toward the bus, striking the back tire. The Mustang received minor damage.
There was one student in a wheelchair on the bus, but no injuries were reported. The car driver was cited for failure to maintain a single lane.
The district does not plan to take any action since it was a minor accident, Ms. Parnell said.
