Staff Reports

A Whitehouse man was arrested after he allegedly was found with stolen property on Monday.

The Smith County Sheriff's Office received several calls of home burglaries on County Road 191 in the southeastern portion of the county, according to a news release from the department.

During the investigation, deputies and a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper found 21-year-old Jermaine Lashone Kennedy, of Whitehouse, with a nylon bag containing items stolen from three homes on CR 191, the release states.

Kennedy showed investigators other places he allegedly burglarized on CR 191 and County Road 1313, and about $6,000 worth of stolen property was recovered, according to the release. The items included firearms, cameras, Kindle Fire tablets and Wii devices.

Kennedy was charged with burglary of a habitation. His bond was set at $35,000 by Judge Kerry Russell.

Anyone with information on the burglaries is asked to call the Smith County Dispatch Office at 903-566-6600.
