Midday Update: Cruise ship no longer adrift, Vick gets new deal

Ricky Neal Jr., the man charged in the Saturday morning shooting death at the Broadway Square Mall, will make his first court appearance today at 3 p.m. in Tyler. At that appearance, Neal is expected to be asked if he needs an attorney, and other procedural matters. ***VIDEO*** Neal is accused of shooting Chris Mass in the parking lot of the mall Saturday morning.***
A Carnival cruise ship in the Gulf of Mexico with more than 4,200 passengers and crew will be towed to port after a weekend engine fire left it dead in the water. A U.S. Coast Guard cutter arrived to aid the stranded ship early today. The Carnival Triumph was off the Yucatan Peninsula, heading back to Galveston, when the fire occurred Sunday morning. The ship's automatic fire extinguishing system kicked in and soon contained the blaze, and no injuries were reported. The fire still left the ship with 3,143 passengers and 1,086 crew members without propulsion, drifting about 140 miles off the Mexican coast. Technicians on the ship have been able to restore some power to the ship's Lido buffet, allowing for hot coffee and limited hot food service, Carnival said this morning. Power also has been restored to a limited number of elevators on the ship, making it easier for passengers to move around the vessel. As of late morning, public and cabin toilets are working in some areas of the ship.***
In NFL news, Michael Vick is not going anywhere. Not yet, anyway. The Philadelphia Eagles announced today they have agreed to terms on a new, "restructured" contract with Vick, who was set to earn $15.5 million in 2013 and was under contract through 2016. A person informed of the terms of the new deal said it has two voidable years on the back end beyond this upcoming season. But the person said it'll basically serve as a one-year contract.***
