East Texas residents talk frustrating intersections
Editor's note: While the Tyler Morning Telegraph began work on a story about the city addressing traffic issues at Donnybrook Avenue and Loop 323 in Tyler, our Facebook fans were asked to list their least-favorite Tyler intersection and why. Here is what some of them said:
Marilu Martinez: I work off of Shelley between Broadway and Old Bullard, and it's horrible traffic!
Jeff Olive: I live there. I don't perceive the traffic to be the biggest problem at that intersection (though it can be difficult when school is letting in or out). The real issue is that traffic on the loop runs the red light at every cycle.
Carrie Cole Brantley: It's really weird how, when you're going north on Donnybrook, you have to basically switch lanes in the middle of the intersection to go straight. I'm guessing that's probably what's prompting this.
Sandra Bunch: All of them!
Duke Brando: Any of them when you see they made U-turns legal! The stupidest … thing I've ever seen. Just how many people will get plowed into until that becomes illegal again?
Teresa Batey: I have always hated Shiloh-Rhones Quarter-Troup. That is a crazy and dangerous intersection.
Jenny Medina: Old Jacksonville and the loop. Left-turn light doesn't last very long
Joshua Herndon: Houston and Vine and whatever that third street in the mix. That has got to be the dumbest intersection. It's getting better though ... I think.
Summer Rodriguez: Broadway and the loop or Troup and the loop!
Terry Bundick: Not really an intersection but very dangerous section of road Shiloh Road and Thistle Drive. Lots of accidents along this stretch of road
Hollie Allen: 110 and the loop is my second — I have to sit through it three or four times to turn left, even though there is a turn in by the railroad tracks we were using with no accidents until they put in the medians and blocked it. ... My top least favorite is the loop and Spur 248 from the Santa Elena side.
Alejandro Rodriguez: Front Street and South Beckham Avenue gets crazy.
Maurice E. Peterson: Highway 31 West and Loop 323.
Sandi Pincock: The turn out right in front of Wal-Mart onto 64. I know it doesn't really qualify as an intersection, but anyone that makes it out of there without nearly getting T-boned or sitting there for an hour deserves a round of applause
Kathy Rogillio Birt: Paluxy and loop, then Broadway and loop. Too congested — all which have been made worse with the U-turns at the intersection due to the concrete medians
Zack Wade: Troup and the loop. They need to change the rotation for the northbound traffic. It gets so congested between the loop and Golden Road!
Robin Duncan Gamel: Loop and Gentry. Light takes forever!

Hollie Allen: Shiloh-Rhones Quarter-Troup is a bad one, but that is mostly due to folks running the red light at Shiloh and Rhones Quarter.

David Maples: Any intersection containing one of those insane brick medians. Forcing commuters to U-turn where they once could have made a left out of a center lane has done nothing but worsen traffic conditions in Tyler.

Skip Herring: Any intersection where people are constantly running the light or stop sign!
Allen Arrick: Stop complaining about the medians. Broadway and the loop was a nightmare before they put them in. Medians prevent head-on collisions as well as T-bone collisions.
Rebecca Stephens Kelley: There REALLY needs to be large 55 mph speed limit signs on both sides of southbound South Broadway about Gander Mountain or immediately past it. The entire subdivision of Irish Meadows takes their lives in their hands on a daily basis, every time they turn into or pull out of there. People will run up to 70-80 mph through there in an attempt to beat the lights at Loop 49 intersection. Any rush-hour drive times are crazy dangerous.
Rema Burghul: Paluxy and the loop. I see someone making a right turn on the red light almost hit someone doing a U-turn just about every day. And then it backs up the turn lane and only five or six cars can make it through
Mundo Villapudua: Highway 31 and Front. If you are going east on 31 and making a right onto Front, it's easy to run the red light, and then the motorcycle comes out of nowhere!
Jill Hamilton Martin: Going on the west loop where it zigzags at 64. I always feel like I'm going to run into the turning lane. Palms sweat every time!

Mitch Coulter: Loop and Troup coming from the south. Tyler traffic has been out of whack since the '60s. It will never be right because everything tries to get to South Broadway.

Ashlie Baley: Shiloh/Rice and Broadway. People turning left off of Shiloh to head south on Broadway either always run that light or it overlaps with Rice's light heading that way, toward Rose Rudman, Copeland, etc.
Molly Gray: Fourth and College/Chilton and Fifth and College/Chilton. The lights are timed horribly.

Keith Tate: The medians weren't installed to make traffic flow better. They were installed to make it safer, and they have done that. I for one am glad they're there. I may be wrong, but there has not been a single death in the areas where the medians were installed since their installation. Before the medians, there were deaths. Some people just need to learn to think out their travel route and plan accordingly.
