YES, PLEASE, February 6
In response to Norman Poppell’s Sunday letter to the editor suggesting bicycles and bicyclists be treated identically to motorists, I say yes, please.
The vast majority of bicyclists in Tyler would welcome the opportunity to license our bikes (many are more valuable than cars on our streets) and comply with street driving examinations, yearly registrations, safety inspections, Texas Toll Tags and even bicycle insurance.
If Mr. Poppell would attend one of Tyler’s many bicycling functions, he would find our riders are among most responsible, respected and law abiding members of our society. We want to do the right thing and we want to share the road in the safest and most responsible manner possible.
I, for one, would gladly pay for a Texas Toll Tag to ride the safest roads in Texas.
