TISD recognized by Texas Comptroller’s office for financial transparency
Staff Reports

The Texas Comptroller’s office has recognized Tyler ISD for its financial transparency for the fourth straight year.

Tyler ISD received the Gold Leadership Circle Award, the highest recognition given to local governments that set the bar for financial transparency, according to a district news release.

The leadership awards recognize local governments that open their books to the public; provide clear, consistent pictures of spending; and share information in a user-friendly format that lets taxpayers easily drill down for more information, according to the program web page.

TISD provides information such as check registers, monthly payroll summaries, annual financial reports and district credit card transactions on its website, tylerisd.org. District staff members regularly update the information, according to the news release.

Chief Financial Officer Tosha Bjork said during the past few years, the district has worked to increase its financial transparency.

“Taxpayers deserve to know how the district is spending their money,” she said, according to the news release. “It is an honor to receive this award.”

School districts must apply for a Leadership Circle Award. This year only 15 school districts in the state received the Gold Leadership Circle Award. There are more than 1,000 school districts in the state.
