Police identify armed robbery suspect

The Tyler Police Department has identified a man using credit cards stolen during a Sunday armed robbery.

A woman was walking home on the 1800 block of East-Southeast Loop 323 at 1:29 a.m. Sunday, according to a news release from the department.

A driver in an older white car pulled up beside her, and a black man, about 5-foot, 9-inches tall and about 180 pounds, wearing a grey hat, got out of the car. He allegedly pointed a small black pistol at her and demanded her cell phone, the release states.

The woman handed over her purse and phone, and the man got back into the car, which left west on the loop, the release states. The woman was not harmed.

Four black men were in the car as it drove away.

On Wednesday, police investigated reports of the woman's credit cards being used at several local businesses and released a photo of a man captured making a transaction.

The man was identified, but his name was not released pending the ongoing investigation, according to a news release.

Crimestoppers will pay up to $1,000 for information that leads to the arrest and charges filed against suspects in any felony case.
