Gun Control, January 30
I am currently a Star Scout with Boy Scout Troop 333. I have been reading the recent stories concerning more gun control. As a Boy Scout, I have earned all three shooting sports merit badges: Rifle Shooting, Shotgun Shooting, and Archery. I was talking with my uncle and my father about the new proposals and I am concerned that they might limit the ability for Scouts to shoot rifles and shotguns at our camps. I am also concerned that it will be harder for future Scouts to earn these merit badges.
At the winter camp I recently attended, the instructors had a hard time getting enough ammunition for the Scouts to qualify to earn the merit badges. In earning these merit badges, Scouts are taught to properly handle a gun, and how to safely clean and care for them. I believe that in earning these merit badges the Scouts are taught responsibility and maturity. Also, I believe if you take away the methods that teach these things, you will have a world full of incompetent men who do not know how to help anyone.
