Trade association honors UT Tyler student organization, professor
An international trade association recognized a student organization and professor from The University of Texas at Tyler.

The Association of Technology, Management and Applied Engineering recognized UT Tyler’s student chapter and the industrial technology program, according to a university news release.

The UT Tyler ATMAE student chapter group earned the Outstanding Student Chapter Award for the second consecutive year.

This award is given based on the number of members and the range and quality of chapter-sponsored activities, according to the news release.

The UT Tyler chapter competed with more than 50 other ATMAE student chapters to earn the honor.

In addition, Dr. Mark R. Miller, professor and program coordinator, received the 2012 ATMAE Outstanding Faculty Excellence Award.

Miller has been responsible for growing UT Tyler’s industrial technology and industrial management programs; establishing a new lean six sigma black belt certification for the department, and publishing textbooks in his discipline, according to the news release.

Under his leadership, the department also doubled the number of ATMAE certifications with the introduction of three exams that he developed and/or coordinated, according to the news release.

Miller also prepared the UT Tyler’s industrial technology program’s reaccreditation self-study report in which all 63 standards were in full compliance.
