Lindale foundation raises $111K for district's schools
Staff Reports

Teachers and students at Lindale ISD have a lot to look forward to in 2013 after its education foundation was celebrated raising $111,000 at the end of 2012 to support innovative learning in the district.

The Lindale ISD Education Foundation is a certified nonprofit organization that provides grants for innovative projects and programs that are either not funded or under-funded by the district's operating budget, according to a news release from the district.

The foundation is supported through donations, and its funds provide equipment, software and teaching tools to enhance curriculum and learning in classrooms.

“Our success in 2012 is due to the incredible community support we have received,” LISD Education Foundation Executive Director Maya Bethany said in the news release. “We could not continue to grow and sustain the vision we have for the teachers and students of Lindale ISD without the contributions of our donors. We are so very grateful.”

“We are working to build an endowment to ensure our mission continues for generations of Lindale students to come,” Ms. Bethany said in the release. “The contributions in 2012 have greatly helped to push us closer to this goal.”

The foundation was created in May 2008 and began distributing funds in November 2009.

Since then, the foundation has awarded $105,471.16 to classrooms through the Grants for Great Ideas Program, the release states.

Staff members submit grant applications in the spring through and funds are awarded based on many factors including innovation. In 2012, 11 projects received $35,311.36.

An additional, the contribution of $10,000 from Lindale's Red Baron Companies was applied to two technology and science-related projects, according to the release.

The foundation's 2012 goal was to raise $110,000 and it exceeded the goal through contributions during annual campaign and sponsorship events.

“We cannot say thank you enough to the donors, parents and staff of the Lindale ISD for all of their support,” foundation President Wayne Fletcher said in the release. “We commit to being good stewards of your donations and to work to provide additional support to the teachers and students of LISD whenever needed.”
