Tanks to Egypt, January 11
On Jan. 26, our federal government is scheduled to deliver to the Egyptian military 10 brand new fighter jet airplanes and 200 military tanks. The cost of this “gift” exceeds $1.5 billion. It occurs to me that our country can't afford this generosity because we're broke.
It's argued that this is a long-standing obligation. We promised a long time ago to do this. But the truth of the matter is that the government to whom we made the promise is no longer there. We don't owe the new regime anything.
At this point in time the only way we can stop this madness is to rely on our president to step in and refuse to deliver.
He's been issuing proclamations galore that cost us money. Here's a chance to chip away at that deficit problem.
Why are we continuing to build tanks anyway?
This nation will never fight a “tank war” again. Drones and rockets are the weapons of the future.
It would be advisable for our president to appoint a special committee to study all our foreign aid with an eye on eliminating a few hundred billion dollars in the process. We have little reason to give away borrowed money. It's especially odious to give foreign aid to nations whose leaders want to kill us.
