One Woman Injured In Fifth Street Fire
One woman suffered burns and smoke inhalation after a fire Tuesday night at a home in the 500 block of Fifth Street near Chilton Avenue.

Jeff Tucker, deputy fire marshal for the city of Tyler, said three people were inside, but they all got out. The woman who suffered burns and smoke inhalation was taken to the hospital but had non-life threatening injuries, Tucker said.

Tyler Fire Department got the call at 10:17 p.m. and the fire was under control by 10:35 p.m.

Tucker said a man was sleeping in a downstairs room where the fire is believed to have started, while his wife was in another room and smelled smoke. She went into the bedroom and saw the bed was on fire, Tucker said. She woke her husband up, and they got out of the house. Another person upstairs, a male, got out of the home as well.

The first floor of the home was destroyed, and the second floor was partially damaged from fire but also had heavy smoke damage.

The cause of the fire was under investigation, Tucker said.

Fifth Street was blocked for a time, and traffic was diverted as crews put out the fire.
