Seven injured as Greyhound Bus crashes in Forney, Greyhound spokesperson says bus originated in Shreveport
From Staff and KTYX CBS19 Reports

A Greyhound bus crashed Wednesday in the Forney-Mesquite area, sending seven to the hospital.

Maureen Richmond, Greyhound spokesperson, said the bus was en route from Shreveport to Dallas.

“The bus may have made a stop in Tyler, but it was from Shreveport,” Ms. Richmond said.

Forney Fire Chief Rick Townsend said the incident happened around 5 p.m. on U.S. Highway 80 West near the intersection of Farm-to-Market Road 740.

Ms. Richmond said a car entered the highway and hit the bus. The driver was able to continue to Dallas.

The bus did not leave the roadway and appeared to be in fairly good structural condition, Townsend said.

A total of seven people were taken to local hospitals, some to Baylor Medical Center in Dallas and others to Texas Regional Medical Center in Sunnyvale, Townsend said. Others were injured but declined going to the hospital, he said.

“The injuries (of those) that were transported appeared to be minor, (but) of course what develops late we don’t know,” Townsend said.

Ambulances from East Texas Medical Center, the Mesquite Fire Department and Rockwall County responded to the scene. Townsend said officials wanted to make sure there were enough to carry whoever was injured.

“We didn’t know how many patients we would end up with … it’s always better to have more than you need,” he said.

The Forney police and fire departments also responded to the scene.
