A.M. UPDATE: Fire at John Soules Foods; Lindale seeking oily litterbug

JOHN SOULES FOODS FIRE
Overnight firefighters battled a fire at John Soules Foods. A blown transformer at John Soules Foods in Tyler burned a stack of recyclable materials Sunday night but did not cause injuries or damage to the main building. Red Springs, Winona, New Chapel Hill and Dixie volunteer fire departments were on scene, along with the Smith County Sheriff's Office and Fire Marshal.

LINDALE LITTERBUG
Lindale officials stopped a litterbug's used oil from contaminating a nearby lake and are investigating who made the mess. Dan Somes, Lindale's chief of police, said the department was notified by a resident of oil in a creek behind their home. Somes said police believe someone changed oil from a diesel engine and poured the used oil down a drain. He said the drain goes into the city's water drainage system and the oil ended up in a small creek that feeds into what is commonly called Poole Lake. Tommy Goodman, Smith County's litter abatement officer, said Tyler Commission on Environmental Quality should have the spill completely cleaned up by the end of Monday or Tuesday.
