PUTIN BANS AMERICANS FROM ADOPTING RUSSIAN BABIES
Russian President Vladimir Putin today signed a bill banning Americans from adopting Russian children, part of a harsh response to a U.S. law targeting Russians deemed to be human rights violators. Although some top Russian officials
including the foreign minister openly opposed the bill and Putin himself had been noncommittal about it last week, he signed it less than twenty-four hours after receiving it from Parliament, where both houses passed it overwhelmingly.

SURPRISE MARRIAGE PROPOSAL
Lindie Bryant got a big surprise this month. Her longtime boyfriend, Steven Berry, proposed to her on Dec. 13 shortly after his bilateral lung transplant. Berry, a 21-year-old Rusk resident, said he planned to propose on New Year's, maybe after a fireworks show. But all of that changed when he was told he had a transplant offer. Berry was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at 3 years old and had been on a transplant list since September. Read the complete story here on
