Whispering Pines RV & Cabin Resort in Tyler will become the fifth Texas campground to join the Jellystone Park Camp-Resort network of family focused campgrounds.
The 30-year-old park, which has 133 RV sites and 18 park model cabins, has a lineup of themed weekends and special events from Easter through Halloween. Don and Jan Tardy, who acquired the park in May, wanted to join Jellystone Park chain to expand their marketing reach, they said in a prepared statement.
“I like the concept of Jellystone Park and I want to emphasize the fact that we are a park that caters to families,” Tardy said, adding that Whispering Pines will officially join the Jellystone Park chain on Jan. 1.
Jellystone Parks offer fun family activities that include everything from crafts and games to “hey rides,” birthday parties with the bears and daily appearances by Yogi. The Tardys, who run the park with their adult children, Colt and Bree Perrin, offer family activities and amenities. They plan to make more improvements to the park in preparation for the upcoming camping season. Tardy said they are adding five more cabins and they have plans for other activities, including laser tag and a zip line, putting in a beach around their pond and add paddle boats. They also hope to eventually have a train, he said.
Whispering Pines has four large meeting rooms with separate kitchens to accommodate large groups. Other amenities include basketball, horseshoes, ping pong, shuffleboard and volleyball courts, a camp store and a poolside café.
Launched in 1969, the Jellystone Park system is the second largest chain of campgrounds in the United States, with 78 campgrounds with more than 15,000 campsites in 30 states and Canada. Other Texas Jellystone Parks are in Burleson, Canyon Lake, Fredericksburg and Waller.
