Staff Reports

Five suspects police believe may be responsible for multiple burglaries in Van Zandt County were arrested Wednesday morning following a manhunt.

According to a release from the Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office, about 4 a.m. Deputy Steven Prock noticed two vehicles driving slowly on the service road of Interstate 20 between Farm-to-Market Road 17 and FM 1255.

Prock watched the vehicles, but did not see the vehicles go through the intersection of I-20 and FM 17, and he drove west in search of the vehicles, the release states.

When he found them, only one was occupied, according to the sheriff's office. Prock attempted to talk to the person before they fled and several others ran from a nearby warehouse.

Canton, Grand Saline and Van police departments assisted in the manhunt and a Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter flew overhead. Eventually, five suspects were apprehended, according to the release.

The office to the mini warehouse complex was burglarized, and officials said they believe the suspects committed several offenses in the area based on recovered property from the vehicles and suspects.

The suspects were from the Terrell, Dallas and Mesquite areas, but their names were not released as of press time, pending arraignment.
