A 20-year-old Tyler man was in critical condition after an accident on South Broadway Avenue just before noon Thursday.

Tyler police spokesman Don Martin said Dillon Shelton was heading north on Broadway on a 2006 Suzuki as a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by 63-year-old Pam Davis, was traveling south but making a U-turn at the Heritage Drive.

Martin said Shelton tried to avoid the accident to no avail.

“The rider of the motorcycle tried to lay the bike down, but struck the Tahoe sending the rider airborne,” he said.

At the Heritage and Broadway intersection, there have been five accidents in the past two years.

“Accident investigators were on the scene and will determine who was at fault upon completion of the investigation,” he said.

Martin said Shelton remained hospitalized at East Texas Medical Center and Ms. Davis was not injured in the accident.
