Police fatally shoot shotgun-wielding man
DALLAS — Police have identified a shotgun-wielding man fatally wounded after witnesses reported him walking down a southeast Dallas residential street with his weapon.
A Dallas police statement says the episode began about 3:45 p.m. Thursday when police received a report of an armed encounter in the Pleasant Grove section of Dallas.
When officers arrived, a witness reported the man was walking in the street with his gun. Officers spotted the man, who was still armed. Police Sgt. Warren Mitchell says the officers loudly ordered the man to drop the weapon. Instead, he continued walking toward the officers while raising his gun. Mitchell says officers, fearing for their lives, opened fire.
The wounded man was taken to Baylor University Medical Center, where he died. Police identified him as 37-year-old Robert Williams.
