Salvation Army Red Kettle drive is just one way you can donate

Salvation Army bell ringers are out in full force. In front of retail centers and restaurants, they (the vast majority are volunteers) unceasingly ring a bell enticing passersby to part with some change or to drop a dollar or two into their iconic red kettles.

All those coins and dollars add up.

Chantel Mil-lin, SA community relations director, says that by Christ-mas, the Red Kettle campaign will bring in several hundred thousands of dollars to fund the faith-based organization’s charitable work in Tyler.

But dropping money in the Red Kettle is not the only way to give.

Supporters can mail checks or money orders made payable to The Salvation Army to The Salvation Army, Tyler, P.O. Box 2050 Tyler, 75710.

You can donate by credit card by going to its website and clicking on the tab that says “donate now.”

Through the United Airlines Charity Miles Program, Mileage Plus members can donate miles that can be used to help fly personnel to disaster sites.

You can donate blankets, clothing or other items that can be used by the men, women and children staying in SA’s temporary housing and emergency shelter.

You can shop at the Salvation Army Family Store, 723 N. Broadway Ave. Proceeds from sales help SA provide emergency rent, food and prescription assistance.

Others give their time, energy and talent. Volunteers help provide disaster relief and carry out the organization’s many social services.

Consider joining the Tyler Salvation Army Auxiliary. The 400-member auxiliary is one of the largest support groups of its kind in the nation.
