Last day to buy TxTAG for toll roads today
Today is the last day motorists can secure a TxTAG in person at Harvey Convention Center.

TxTAG is the toll tag that can be used on any toll road in Texas, including Toll 49.

TxTAG sales in Tyler had another big day Wednesday, shattering the prior day's statewide TxTAG event record.

Department of Transportation spokesman Larry Krantz said 170 tags were sold Wednesday, bringing the total for Tuesday and Wednesday to 285. Tuesday had set a record with 115 tags sold.

"If you still need a TxTAG, this is your last chance for a while to buy one in person," Krantz said. "... You can walk in with a need and walk out with a TxTAG, put it on your windshield and go."

Krantz noted sales are only being done by credit or debit card. There are no cash or check sales.

The purchase will start the account with a minimum of $20 in toll credits.

Krantz said after the event Tuesday that TxDOT officials had a feeling the tags would be popular.

"We've seen this coming," he said. "As Toll 49 moves toward the interstate, the demand is growing."

Toll collection began at 12:01 a.m. Monday on the newly-opened segment of Toll 49, which connects Texas Highway 155 in Noonday with Texas Highway 31 west of Tyler. The segment, officially known as Segment 3A, opened to traffic on Nov. 9.

Segment 3B of Toll 49, which will connect Texas Highway 31 and Interstate 20, is scheduled to open to traffic next spring, officials said.

Customer service representatives from TxTAG will be on duty to open new accounts or service existing accounts between 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. today in the rear parking lot at Harvey Convention Center, just across from the Rose Garden Center main entrance.

Texans also can purchase TxTAGs anytime by logging on to www.txtag.org, or by calling TxTAG customer service during regular business hours at 1-888-Go-TxTAG.
