Nelson Clyde: Is It Just Me?

Dunk Musburger!

Is it just me or did December get here a little too quickly this year?

I can’t say with certainty I was ready for Thanksgiving. But now everything is in my garage and the front yard. It’s like my attic threw up Christmas stuff everywhere.

I’m just not ready for this. It’s not that I have been bad either. In fact when Santa checks the log for this year he is gonna have a really big smile on his face. I have been particularly good.

This week several fun things happened around our 26th wedding anniversary. We had a wonderful dinner and were chilling out not particularly waiting on the check when our waiter came to the table to let us know some sweet friends had bought our dinner and wished us a happy anniversary. To say the least it made us feel really nice.

We should have known something was up when he brought us a special dessert with the words Happy Anniversary drizzled onto the plate in chocolate. He said he wasn’t sure what to call such writing when in a moment of inspiration it hit me, “Its Chocligraphy,” I exclaimed with delight!”

We’ll have to submit that one to the Urban Dictionary or add it to our own records. If you spelled out a message using Greenberg turkey it would obviously be Turkligraphy. The list could really go on and on.

The weather is really too hot to feel the seasonal urges kick in. What this town needs is a good blue Norther. In addition to being good for retailers it would help out the hunters in the region.

I guess one of the biggest things being discussed around here is whether Johnny Manziel will win the Heisman Trophy, college football’s most coveted prize. Not that many would admit it but I’ll bet more than a few Texas Longhorn faithful have watched “Johnny Football” play a few games this year.

The boy grew up in Tyler and if anyone doubts his true Texas roots they ought to head over to Loggin’s restaurant on Glenwood where his maternal grandparents serve up some of the best old school home cooking left in the land. I don’t know if Jerry uses real lard in any of his recipes but if you want the real thing they’ve got it. One of these days we should have a contest to see if his chicken fried steak or Rick Eltife’s is the best. Talk about a throwdown.

The season the Aggies had was most impressive and I’ve heard a lot of talk from Aggie circles that the predictions of their SEC demise were a bit premature. I’ll admit it. I thought they would get waxed when they made the move but who saw this kid coming out of nowhere and setting the college football world on fire?

The oddsmakers in Vegas have Manziel as the favorite and it seems the trophy is his in spite of the pitiful case Brent Musburger made for the kid from Notre Dame during the USC game.

When a freshman is the best football player in America, my money says he deserves the prize. I’m sure the Aggie nation would agree.

We’re thinking of a dunking booth for members of our sports staff who made less than glowing predictions about the Aggies when the season started. Better yet, how about we see if we can get Musburger on the seat? His bias against teams from Texas is disgusting enough every year. Maybe it’s time for him to hang it up?

Somebody out there could make a fortune this week with an App to dunk Musburger.

Wonder how many chances Manziel would need to hit the target? I wouldn’t want to be in that seat.

Maybe we’ll call it revenge of the Aggies or something better if you can think of it.
