Samsung offers scholarships to seniors

Samsung Electronics is offering $55,000 in scholarship opportunities to graduating seniors in the Tyler and Marshall independent school districts.

The application deadline is Dec. 31. Scholarship recipients will be notified in January.

Three types of scholarships being offered are the Samsung Scholarship; Samsung Math, Science and Technology Scholarship; and Samsung Football Scholarship.

The $10,000 Samsung Scholarship is open to graduating seniors from the Tyler and Marshall school districts.

One scholarship will be awarded to one student from each school district, according to a news release from the East Texas Communities Foundation, which is administering the scholarships.

The recipient must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale at their high school.

The $10,000 Samsung Math, Science and Technology Scholarship is open to graduating seniors from the Tyler and Marshall school districts.

One scholarship will be awarded to one student from each district.

Preference will be given to students pursuing a degree in math, science, or technology, according to the news release.

The recipient must have a minimum 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale at their high school.

The $5,000 Samsung Football Scholarship is for graduating seniors from the Tyler and Marshall school districts.

One scholarship is available for one student each from Robert E. Lee High School, John Tyler High School and Marshall High School, according to the news release.

The recipient also must have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale and be a current member of the varsity or junior varsity football team.
