UPDATE: 3 wrecks block traffic on Texas 155, I-20 in East Texas
Staff reports

Dispatchers with the Smith County Sheriff's Office said traffic is backed up on Texas Highway 155, south of the Interstate 20 intersection, because of a two-vehicle accident.

They said injuries are unknown at this time. Winona Volunteer Fire Department has been dispatched to the scene as a precaution.

The collision is affecting traffic on Texas 155, but it is unknown whether I-20 is backed up.

Two minor accidents also are backing up traffic on I-20 West in the Lindale and Van areas.

Dispatchers with the Texas Department Safety said there are no major injuries in either of the accidents, but the vehicles are in the roadway. Both are in the westbound lanes.

Traffic is backed up at mile maker 545, east of Van. Dispatchers said a collision was cleaned up, and another one happened soon after. As of 3 p.m. Sunday, a car was still in the roadway, but crews were on scene.

At mile marker 559, west of Lindale near Santa Land, a truck with a trailer overturned. Crews are on scene.

According to AAA Texas, today is one of the heaviest travel days of the year as many Texans are returning home from Thanksgiving with their families.

DPS issued the following travel tips before the holiday:

Don't drink and drive. Designate a driver or take a cab.

Eliminate distractions, and don't text while driving.

Buckle up everyone in the vehicle — it's the law.

Slow down — especially in bad weather, construction areas and heavy traffic.

Slow down or move over for tow trucks and police, fire and EMS vehicles stopped on the side of the road with emergency lights activated — it's the law.

Don't drive fatigued.

Drive defensively, as holiday travel may present additional challenges.

Make sure your vehicle is properly maintained before your trip begins.
