American can solve its problems, if it shows resolve
For our country to flourish, as it has in the past, we will need a vibrant economy, a strong national defense, and a strong moral fiber.
I am a strong believer in a free market system, with only limited regulations; only what is absolutely necessary. Over-regulation gets into the area of the government telling entrepreneurs how to run their businesses and sometimes even picking winners and losers.
There is evil in our world. Other countries have the luxury of letting their guard down, only because we exist. We cannot. There is nobody else to protect us. Why that is hard for some to understand, is beyond comprehension.
Our moral fiber can only be demonstrated by how we conduct ourselves in our dealings with others.
The United States must be respected and seen as just. More importantly, we must be able to face ourselves in the mirror. We must be firm and consistent, but most of all fair.
Although jobs, the debt and entitlement reforms are considered to be our biggest immediate challenges. It is my belief that solving our problems of comprehensive immigration reform, shrinking individual rights, a shackled economy, and a national narcissism epidemic will put us on the path required to meet those challenges and any others that lie ahead. With our hearts in the right place and our heads on straight, America can do anything.

LAUDABLE EDITORIAL
The editorial “Political discourse means listening, too” is to be applauded. We live in a society that cannot listen, and does not respect what it hears. You are right that all sides need to listen to positions that are not in agreement with theirs.
Your statement, “Both conservatives and liberals should be confident enough in their positions that they’re willing to hear the other side ...” also calls attention to the national syndicated columns that you publish daily. Your editorial would be consistent with the publishing of conservative columnists such as David Brooks or even evangelical Christian Jim Wallis.
When people not only hear one side, but also read one side, it can lead to anger and hostility when national events go contrary to their beliefs. Keep struggling to have an open press.

Up until we got bombarded with the shenanigans of General Petraeus, most of the news concerned what caused the Romney-Ryan ticket to lose and what the Republicans need to fix by 2016.
I don’t think they need to fix much. What they need to fix is the pro-left bias on network television. It got so bad a few days before the election, even sitcoms in primetime slots were mentioning the Obama name for no reason at all.
Several months ago Rush Limbaugh was yelling about the Democrats wanting to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine. He opposed it because he erroneously believed it meant he would have to have a liberal spokesperson on with him to give their side of the argument. As much as I enjoy listening to him, I also like to fact-check some of his rants.
Even though this wasn’t in the doctrine, in today’s world it should be. Maybe Rush wouldn’t enjoy someone being able to contradict him all afternoon but it would be nice to be able to correct the deliberate misstatement of facts and omissions we experience every night on network news.
Both sides made mistakes and told some whoppers during the campaign, but only the Republicans were exposed by the media. It’s time things evened up.

DOUBLE STANDARD
Sex scandals are rampant with our military generals. Punishment and resignations are forthcoming.
Why don’t we hold our political office holders to these same standards?
