Goodman ready for festival visitors
The Goodman-Legrand Museum, 624 N. Broadway Ave., will hold a special open house today in conjunction with the Texas Rose Festival.
The antebellum mansion that dates back to 1859 will offer tours, refreshments on the veranda and entertainment from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. On the grounds is an Earth-Kind botanical garden.
Over the years, the house has served as the home to one of Tyler's most prominent families including the Dr. Samuel Adams Goodman and then his son, Dr. William Jeffries Goodman.

It was eventually willed to the city of Tyler which took over ownership in 1940 and has maintained it as a museum. In 2010-2011, the Goodman-LeGrand underwent major exterior renovations.
The home is furnished with the original belongings of the Goodman-LeGrand family, some of which are date back to the early 1800's.
