Show features roses in Chinese setting
The Rose Show transforms the Rose Garden Center into an oasis of blooming and fragrant flowers.
One of the longtime traditions of the Texas Rose Festival, the show incorporates roses and greenery as part of themed vignettes.
This year’s show depicts the festival’s theme, “Indochine: Year of the Dragon” and was created by Jerry’s Flowers in Tyler.
Visitors are enticed by a Chinese temple flanked by two Foo Dogs, statuettes of sacred dogs of Asia traditionally placed at the entrance of palaces and. Foo Dogs can be found in Chinese dynasty architecture and art dating back to 208 BC.
The Food Dogs will rise from and be ringed by hundreds of colorful roses.
Suspended from above will be a Chinese celebration dragon in vivid shades of red and gold.
The Rose Show opened on Thursday following the ribbon-cutting ceremony by Rose Queen Haley McGrede Anderson and other festival representatives.
It is on view today from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is free.
