Parks, Recreation Department seeks to enhance Rose festival

Tyler Parks and Recreation with the Texas Rose Festival plan to offer two activities next week to enhance the festival experience.

The popular Rose Festival Arts and Crafts Fair returns Oct. 20 and 21 to Bergfeld Park, offering unique gift ideas for people who like to shop.

The fair is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Oct. 20; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 21. The park can be found at Fourth Street and Broadway.

The event is expected to feature more than 70 vendors offering handcrafted items for sale including unique jewelry, metal art, photography, candles, clothes, pottery, floral creations, paintings, plants, flower bulbs and more.

A free concert is also planned for 6 p.m. Oct. 20 in the Bergfeld Park amphitheater, featuring the Tyler Junior College Jazz Band.

In a second event, the third annual Old Rose Open House is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Goodman-LeGrand House and Museum, 624 N. Broadway Ave.

The event is expected to feature Rose Belles as official greeters, as well as presentations, tours, music and complimentary refreshments and tours of the Chamblee Rose Garden.

Horse-drawn carriages adorned in roses are available for a fee to transport visitors from the Goodman estate to the downtown square.

Rides are provided by Farm Valley Carriages.
